Hollow Rock

This piece of fabric was long in my travel pouch and it went to quite a few places, from Székesfehérvár to Zagreb to Mostar. I think it looks good but the end result, a coaster, is not what I opted for.

To be honest, knitting has me in its grip much more than embroidering nowadays. In knitting I can produce really useful items, especially for cold winters.

But then there are these moments that I don’t want to knit, because how much pullovers does one need? I think what I need is a longer tour to sit at camp fires. One such fire burned a hole in the swatch and I thought it characteristic. But as pouches life goes, they choose their own becoming and this one was cut in a square, undone from burning marks and dotted with glass beads and sequins.

This one is neat, named ‘Hollow Rock’, hemp cotton dyed with black walnut, embroidered with raised chainband stitch and the kitchy backside is from a piece of fabric I bought once in Yemen. It has become a coaster.

We recently used kickbikes to explore Budapest. I am very impressed with the guide we found. Meet Szandra, read more about her in an interview I made with her.

My embroidery goes always with me, whether it be the kickbike or our latest mode of transport. The coaster above was finished on this trip.
