Slowly slowly wins the race

Proverb: if you work slowly but constantly, you will succeed better than if you work fast for a short while and do not continue.

That is to say, updates will appear very slowly because I am tremendously occupied with digging and managing a vegetable garden without having any knowledge. Besides, learning about weeds involves studying, recognizing, locating and being in time to harvest the particular weed. All this alongside running a household -which is new to me- and the desire to be creative. Therefore, slowly slowly wins the race, with a few new discoveries now and then which I love to share with you.

Elderberry

Elder is a treasure from nature. The tick clusters of deep purple berries are an inviting sight to aggravate your work load in summer.

Sumac

Sumac is beautiful and it took me time to figure out you can eat it. How many people know this? Well, once you know, you’ll keep using it.

Goldenrod infused honey

Goldenrod has anti-inflammatory benefits, yet the wonderful taste is reason enough to use this weed in a honey.

Goldenrod infused oil

A remedy for aches, strains, and sprains. This oil could be used with beeswax to make a balm with, but I am going to try using it straight out of the glass.

Goldenrod syrup

A syrup to relieve a cough in the colder months, though I use it in sparkling water while enjoying lunch when the temperature is still warm outside.

How to dry goldenrod (for tea)

A hot herbal tea is always good, though this one will act as a diuretic and antiseptic for treating mild bladder infections.

Dandelion root coffee/tea

Dandelions are highly nutritious, being especially rich in potassium, iron, calcium, vitamins A and C and other minerals.

Goldenrod corn bread

Simply another sort of bread, just to add more variety. Sweet and a surprisingly good way to use yet more goldenrod.

Carob powder

Carob, that remarkable and large pod hanging on trees is superfood packed with antioxidants. John the baptist knew this, now I do too.

Nettle leaf powder

Nettle, is that a super-food or not? It tastes super and it is healthy: green leaves that cleanse the body.

Nettle syrup

Nettle syrup is so delicious that you just want to drink cold drinks. For a teetotaler this is a nice change in hot sweaty summer days.
